Relativity was one of my earliest professional productions and one of the most formative. Working under director Josh Kingham and Director of Photography Laura Hafford, I took on a range of on-set roles — production assistant, chief lighting director, boom operator, set design, craft services, and clapperboard operation. I even made a brief cameo as a background extra.
Wearing that many hats on a single production taught me how a set actually functions from the ground up. It's one thing to study filmmaking — it's another to be in the middle of a real crew solving real problems in real time.
The film went on to win a Missouri Broadcast Educators Association award, which made the experience even more meaningful.
I also conducted behind-the-scenes crew interviews that were used in the film's promotional materials.
